What is Kloosterboer

The international logistics company Kloosterboer is a worldwide family company founded by the four brothers Kloosterboer. Kloosterboer has many offices all over the world but the main company is located on the harbour of Vlissingen. There are 218 offices all over the world.

Services

One of the services Kloosterboer delivers is cooled products. There are cool stores with a temperature from -1 till -28 degrees below zero. The cool stores are dived over nine terminals of the employee of Vlissingen. Every terminal has his own kind of products and the right temperatures for every single product.

We visited terminal 4. That is the warehouse for cooled juices. Fruits from all over the world came by trucks and containers to the harbour of Vlissingen, than Kloosterboer makes juices of the delivered fruits and keep them cool in the cool stores. This is an example of term of trade; countries like South Africa and North America sell fruits to the company Kloosterboer for a low price. Kloosterboer creates juices of the fruits and sell them over the whole world for a higher price. That is one of a thousand examples of what Kloosterboer means for the whole world, if they doesn’t produce the juices, who else does?

One of the advantages of the cooled products is that you can keep them fresh for a long time. So if there is a low price for the products, Kloosterboer keeps the products in the cool stores and sell them when the prices are rising. For this reason, the company is involved with the economy all over the world. For the reason that Kloosterboer has a big variation of products, are they allowed to compensate low selling prices of some products with better prices of the others.

Another example of the position of Kloosterboer in the worldwide business world is there view on new kind of serves. Rene Castel, our guide of today told us over a new business value founded by the brothers Kloosterboer. The new business value contains the following; an extra check of the products that Kloosterboer will sell. The check being done by the employees of Kloosterboer called ‘ repacking’. The target after the repacking process is to deliver 100% top quality for the costumers. They pick out the bad products.

Moreover, Kloosterboer needs different educated employees because of the varied services they sell. Kloosterboer needs high educated employees and low educated employees for the handicraft, a big part in the company. Does Kloosterboer also needs IBMS students? Kloosterboer is an international company which need employees who are in contact with their consumers all over the world. This means that IBMS students could be future employees.

Rule and legislation

Such a big company as Kloosterboer needs to gain by a lot of rules. The company has got much to do with environmental organizations such as Greenpeace. An example to conserve the environment are greener transportations of the products. Kloosterboer will always choose to send one containership with 300 containers instead of 300 trucks. Kloosterboer has to think about every environmental effect when they make a decision in their company.

This is why I wonder, how big is the influence of the law and the environmental organizations for the industrial business of Kloosterboer?

Something that seems interesting to my about Kloosterboer is that the company needs every kind of employee. The company needs low-educated employees to do a lot of handicraft in the company. As well as the company needs students from the HZ to create a lot of innovation. In my opinion, Kloosterboer needs IBMS students because of the wide international relationships and workspace. In this case I question myself if a company such as Kloosterboer is also interested in graduated IBMS students. I hope they are for the reason that I think that students would develop themselves a lot in companies like this.

Learning goals for this activity:

The company visit to Kloosterboer was the first activity of this semester. It was absolutely useful for the reason that I keep the knowledge of this activity in mind for other activities.

S Situation

The situation was a guided tour through a big, international company in the harbour of Vlissingen.

T Task

The task we (the visitors, students) received was to make notes about the guided tour and write an essay about it related to your studies.

A Activities

We drive with an touring car over area of the company and received a lot of information of a guide, who is an employee of Kloosterboer. He also shows some terminals and cool stores on the area.

R Result

The result of this activity is an essay about the guided tour as well as I created an idea about a big international company and how things works in practice.

R Reflection

I reflect back to an educative day, which gives me an realistic view of an international company.

T Transfer

This activity transfers back to my studies for the reason that it shows me an example of a company where an IBMS student could work for.
